Any way I can limit my cmo3 file sizes?

I have been working on a big project and adding lots of textures and animations and as a result my cmo3 file is getting quite big. In an attempt to get the growth under control I removed some animations and merged some layers but in th eend this made my cmo3 file grow even more.

My question is if there is some best practice to keep the file size at a reasonable level and also what I can do now to optimize my file and make it a bit smaller.

Any tips are appreciated!
